Lung health screening research
This trial is now closed to new participants
Thank you for your interest in this clinical trial. Recruitment for this study has now finished, and we are no longer accepting new participants.
If you’ve already taken part or registered your interest, our team will continue to support you as usual. If you were hoping to join, we understand this may be disappointing — but don’t worry, we regularly run new trials across a range of health conditions.

About lung health and screening research
Lung cancer remains one of the most common causes of cancer death in the UK, in large part because it is frequently diagnosed at a late stage when fewer treatment options are available. [VERIFY: current Cancer Research UK figures]
Why screening research matters
Detecting lung cancer earlier is one of the most significant opportunities in the field. Targeted lung health check programmes have been introduced in parts of the UK, offering assessment to people at higher risk, and research continues into how such programmes are best designed and who benefits most from them.
Screening research asks different questions from treatment research. It examines who should be offered assessment, how often, by what method, and how to weigh the benefit of earlier detection against the consequences of investigating findings that turn out to be harmless.
What taking part usually involves
Screening studies generally involve an assessment appointment and, depending on the study, some form of imaging. What happens next depends on the findings, and the study team explains the possible outcomes before anything begins, including what happens if something requiring follow-up is identified.
Participation is voluntary. If you have symptoms that concern you, please speak to your GP rather than waiting for a research opportunity, as symptoms should be assessed through normal clinical care.
